Max Haggarty
Well known business owner, local community advocate passes away.
A prominent Quinte area resident, business owner, and community advocate passed away Friday morning. Max Haggarty, the longtime owner and creator of International Truckload Services in Belleville, died in his 85th year. Haggarty never looked for recognition, but supported numerous Quinte area organizations, groups, and charities. His son, and now ITS owner Rob Haggarty says the company had a saying that his dad championed, “all you have to do is ask”. Max supported dozens of local sports teams and held the Belleville Police Service in high regard, especially the Canine Unit. He was also at one time the owner of Bonnie Castle Resort in the Thousand Islands, and was well known in the boating community. Golf was also close to his heart, with 50 years of membership at the Bay of Quinte Golf Club, and he championed the Haggarty Cup. The family says the service will be next week, however it will be private, and in line with COVID guidelines. Anyone wishing to donate on Max’s behalf can do so to the United Way Hastings and Prince Edward.
